When your in bed reading a book, what do you turn on? A light bulb! We have that thanks to Thomas Alva Edison.

Thomas is an american  inventor from 1847 to 1931. On February 11,1847 Thomas Alva Edison was born. His Family nicknamed him Al. he didn't have the best childhood. He didn't get along with his father. His father wasn't very supportive. However, his mother was supportive. When Al was kicked out of school, his mother home schooled him. When Al was ten, his mother gave him a book full of science experiments. That was only the beginning.

Later, when he started his own business on inventing, he met a girl (Mary Stilwell)  that he liked immediately, they later married. Thomas Edison was 24 and his wife Mary, was 16. One of his inventions was the typewriter. There were buttons that you press. When you press a button, the corresponding letter flies up and strikes a sheet of paper. His favorite invention, was the phonograph. The phonograph recorded whatever anybody said to it.

The most famous invention by Thomas Edison was the light bulb. When he was on a break to the rocky mountains, he stopped by a inventor's factory. they were making a better light source than a gas lamp. Thomas said he could do better than them. when he returned to his factory, he worked day and night to make a newer and better light bulb.  When he succeeded, he put them everywhere.

On October 18, 1931, Thomas Edison died. Thomas is person with great mind. His also person who never give up an try hard to achieve his goal. He really lit up the world.
