How to Fix Driving

You as you are the last one in line, in a car, waiting for the green light. You don't realize that you are watching the problem of traffic.

The Green Light
When the light turns green, the first car accelerated, then the next, then the next, and then you, only to meet a red light.

See, the problem is that there is a little delay between the cars acceleration. This will slow you down and ultimately resulting in you not being able to go.

Instant Acceleration
You see, if all the cars in front of you and you accelerated at the same time, you would've made it through.

Coordination is the problem to driving, not car quality.

Coordination
Even if we try to get everyone to press the pedal at the same time, someone would mess up by looking at a chicken, having bad reaction times, etc.

This dis-coordination limits how many cars can cross a green light. When a car backs up into another intersection, that's when city sized cascades happen. Usually taking hours to clear.

Highways
The idea behind highways is that there are no intersections. This means that there is mostly no dis-coordination and less traffic. In theory.

Yes, there are splits and merges, but there is minimal coordination problems there.

Inter section out of the highway will eventually backs its way on the highway. Because of human reaction times.
